Washington County EMS

Mission: To provide the best possible comprehensive EMS System, by: responding to its communities’ needs, preserving life, improving health, and respecting the stakeholders.

Created in 1979, Washington County Emergency Medical Service has been licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Our service covers a geographical area of approximately 700 sq. miles. With two major bodies of water within our service area, the Brazos River bordering the eastern boundary of the county and Lake Somerville the waterways brings nearly a 1 million visitors a year to the area. Washington County is a true 3rd Service Model EMS Department. Completely separate from the Police and Fire Departments. We believe this type of system allows for the most efficient and adequate public safety EMS Department for the community. This model ensures quality EMS professionals and competency in an EMS system dedicated solely to pre-hospital care of the sick and injured.

A quick look at the most clinical superior EMS systems in the country (Austin/Travis County, Wake County North Carolina, King County Washington) reveal a similiar model structure. The department currently handles over 7,000 calls a year and over 9,000 request for services (RFS) per year. The department believes in a maintaining a comprehensive system that is capable of handling 911 calls, Emergency Transfers, Critical Care Services, Non-emergency transfers, and even Rescue Paramedic Services to the visitors and residents of Washington County.
